Mobile Police Station van will be visiting Codford as part of its efforts to bring police services closer to local residents.

Saturday 25th

Codford and district gardening club VegEdible day, in association with Lakeside garden centre.

This is your opportunity to get all you need for the growing season ahead from compost to herbs, potatoes to fruit trees. Other garden related stalls will also be in attendance. The small (£2) entrance fee will also entitle you to your first cup of tea and slice of cake.

Charity quiz night. Free to enter and teams can be up to 6 people. There will be a raffle and donations of raffle prizes would be greatly appreciated. All money raised from the raffle will be donated to the winning team’s charity of choice.

FEBRUARY 2025 EVENTS

Saturday 1st

The Friends of St Mary’s church ploughman’s lunch.

Delicious ham, pate, cheese or a pork pie and salad ploughman’s lunch, followed by amazing home-made desserts and coffee and a raffle. All very welcome.

Sunday 2nd

Codford tea rooms hosts the ‘Freepeace’ band. Come along and enjoy some food or a drink or two!

Monday 3rd

Men’s Fellowship Breakfast. Speaker is Mark Bunting, who is a local supporter of pickupsforpeace.co.uk, a charity that pulls together a convoy of donated 4 WD vehicles, ambulances and quad bikes every few months to deliver aid and equipment directly in to the hands of the Ukrainian army. As well as explaining what the charity does, the talk may also be a bit of a recruiting drive. So if any of you fancy a road trip to Lviv…. Breakfasts cost £12, of which £2 will go towards the charity of the speaker’s choice. Please contact the organisers via email (uwvmfb@gmail.com) before the preceding Friday at the latest, if you’d like to attend.

Wednesday 6th

Film night at the Woolstore theatre. This months film is titled ‘The Critic’. In 1930s London, Jimmy Erskine (Ian McKellen) is the drama critic of the Daily Chronicle and is known for his savage reviews, most recently of actress Nina Land (Gemma Arterton). David Brooke (Mark Strong) has recently taken over the paper and would dearly like to get rid of Jimmy: he seizes his opportunity when Jimmy, who is gay, is arrested one night. Out for revenge, Jimmy lures Nina into a blackmail scheme with deadly consequences. Codford and district gardening club meeting and talk titled ‘border design - plan it - plant it’. The guest speaker will be Felicity Down.

Felicity is co owner of Cleeve nursery and a qualified florist, having trained at the ‘Constance Spry’ school in London. Constance ‘did’ the flowers for the weddings of the Duke of Windsor, the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, and the coronation of Queen Elizabeth 11. With the co-owner of her cookery school she invented ‘Coronation chicken’, and the David Austin rose was named after her.

Codford Tennis Club’s Super 70’s and 80’s Supper and Dance.

Dress up if you wish and dance to the music of the band ‘19Eighties’. Enjoy a three course meal from the era. Cost is £25pp which includes a welcome drink, 3 course meal and live music. Steeple rocks choir will be performing at the Woolstore theatre. They are a community choir with a difference, performing pop classics, rock and a little gospel. The performance is in aid of Wiltshire tree house, which benefits bereaved children and young people living/educated within Wiltshire. MARCH 2025 EVENTS

Wednesday 5th

Film night at the Woolstore theatre. This month’s film is Conclave. Based on Robert Harris’s best-selling novel about a papal election, Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence uncovers a trail of deep secrets left in the dead Pope’s wake - secrets which could shake the foundations of the Church. Codford and district gardening club meeting and talk titled ‘The creation of Exbury gardens’. The guest speaker will be Tom Clarke.

Tom is the head gardener at Exbury. The gardens are over 100 years old, covering 200 acres of the New Forest, is home to one of the greatest woody plant collections and boasts its own miniature railway.

APRIL 2025 EVENTS

Wednesday 2nd

Film night at the Woolstore theatre. This month’s film is Gladiator II. After his North African home is conquered by the tyrannical twin emperors who now lead Rome, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum as a gladiator under the control of Macrinus (Denzel Washington). He must look to his past to find strength to return the glory of Rome to its people. Wednesday 16th

Codford and district gardening club meeting and talk titled ‘The Wardian case and other bright ideas that changed gardening’.

The guest speaker will be Abigail Wills. Abigail is a writer and editor with an interest in gardening and the arts. This talk is based upon one of her books ‘The remarkable cases of Dr Ward and other amazing gardening innovations’ and ‘a rollicking potted history of horticulture from the roman empire to the inspired innovators of 19th century’.

MAY 2025 EVENTS

Saturday 17th

Codford and district gardening club annual plant sale and coffee morning.

This year the sale will be held at Ashton Gifford House, by kind permission of Mr Paul Donnovan. Come along to buy lots of plants to fill your garden with colour and enjoy a coffee and some cake.

Wednesday 21st

Codford and district gardening club and talk titled ‘Unusual plants available to british gardens’. The guest speaker will be Roger Hirons.

Roger, aka the plant doctor, trained at Pershore college and has a wealth of plant knowledge. He is a published author, worked in plant nurseries, run garden centres and owns his own design and landscaping business.

JUNE 2025 EVENTS

Wednesday 18th

Codford and district gardening club first summer trip.

An afternoon coach trip for members to see the gardens of ‘The hospital of St Cross and the almshouses of he Noble poor in Winchester. The hospital was founded circa 1134 by Henry of Blois.

JULY 2025 EVENTS

Wednesday 16th

Codford and district gardening club second summer trip.

Members cars to ‘Westwind’ in Marlborough. An informal four acre country garden full of herbaceous plants. Carsharing is a must as space is limited to six (6) cars. Address for Google maps/satnav: Manton drive - SN8 4HL.

SEPTEMBER 2025 EVENTS

Wednesday 17th

Codford and district gardening club meeting and talk titled ‘The historic front garden’. The guest speaker will be Dr F Burroughs BEM.

Dr Burroughs is a lecturer and after dinner speaker of some renown and in high demand. From the castles built in the middle ages to the 1930 semi. The front garden has always provided an area for display and eccentricity. Here is a celebration of some of the most memorable and stunning examples of english gardening.

OCTOBER 2025 EVENTS

Wednesday 15th

Codford and district gardening club meeting and talk titled ‘Putting plants to bed for winter’. The guest speaker will be Ray Broughton.

Ray is a highly qualified horticulturist, has worked at Sparsholt college where he was a senior lecturer and head of department. His talks are packed with information and seasoned with a sprinkling of humour.

NOVEMBER 2025 EVENTS

Wednesday 19th

Codford and district gardening club meeting and talk titled ‘Finding the Theatricum botanicum in Salisbury cathedral. The guest speaker will be Gill Pelton.

Gill lives in Salisbury, is a speaker with the national association of flower arrangements societies. She has a particular interest in art history, has studied at Sparsholt college and has been a guide at Salisbury cathedral for many years. She will tell us all about the familiar flowers and trees depicted in the unearthed document!
